The first roots
Our family story begins in 1959, when the family moved to Africa and embarked on a journey closely connected to agriculture, including the cultivation of cotton and rice.
Experience beyond agriculture
Over the decades that followed, the family journey expanded across different industries and markets, including more than 30 years in the seafood trade.
An international journey
Nearly two decades in the gold mining sector followed, adding another chapter to a journey shaped by different countries, industries and cultures.
A new chapter in Portugal
In 2020, the family found a new starting point in Portugal. Returning to the land opened the way to a new chapter shaped by agriculture, experimentation and the discovery of the potential of new crops.
From curiosity,
Citroo was born.
In 2020, during a time when the world slowed down, our family found ourselves spending more time on the farm. What began as an unexpected circumstance gradually developed into a deeper connection with agriculture and the land.
Through conversations, ideas and plenty of curiosity, we began imagining what we could create. Innovation has always been part of our family’s way of thinking, so rather than focusing only on conventional crops, we decided to explore something different: exotic citrus.
We began experimenting with different varieties, observing how they adapted and discovering new possibilities within each fruit. That desire to experiment soon extended beyond cultivation.
We explored different ways of transforming citrus and showcasing its distinctive aromas, flavours and characteristics. From those experiments came our first gourmet products and, little by little, the idea that would become Citroo began to take shape.
